Wedding Desserts, Yum!

Traditionally a bride and groom went cake tasting and selected a wedding cake.  The wedding cake was primarily designed to be several layers of rich flavors with intricate white or ivory icing.  Beautiful and classic.

Today, the possibilities cross many categories of desserts.  One of the most common alternatives to cakes are cupcakes!  You can layer them on stands for the traditional outline of a tiered cake or place them on beautiful platters and stands on your dessert table.  This yummy sweet minimizes the necessity for a cake cutter and makes delivery a simple process.

Another great alternative is pie!  You can offer a variety of your favorite pies for your guests to share.  I love this idea for a country wedding!

Other options include the new trend of a cookie table, donuts for the donut lovers, pastries for the Parisan inspires, or homemade desserts for the DIY inspired!

Like all aspects of your wedding day, consider your style and vision when considering your desserts.  Have fun planning and enjoy the tastings!
Happy Wishes,

Groom's Cakes ♥ Football Themed

This is a post for the football lovers out there to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday.  I have been to many weddings where the groom likes to incorporate his love of football into the design on the groom's cake.

We love the idea to use your college team as a groom's cake, especially if there is a strong connection to you as a couple to that college.  This cake idea goes out to our co-owner Rachael and her husband Ben who both graduated from University of Oregon.
Select your or your groom's favorite team and design a jersey cake.  To personalize it, use your new last name on the jersey.

Other ideas for those that love the game.

And one for my brothers..

I hope you enjoyed this snapshot of football themed cakes.  Have a great Super Bowl Sunday whether you watch the game, watch the commercials, or avoid football all together!

Yum, Wedding Cakes!

You have booked your wedding venue, sent Save-the-Dates, selected a florist, and found the perfect wedding dress, now you need to start sampling wedding cake!  Make it a fun event!  Take your fiance, your mom, your maid of honor, or a friend and set up an appointment with you favorite local baker and get ready to taste delicious samples!  Remember that you don't have to go with the traditional white cake, select your favorite;  whether it be carrot cake, triple chocolate, red velvet, or coffee cake, anything goes!

Once you sample the yumminess and choose a flavor, you will have to choose a design. Recently we found some fantastic cake ideas online from Martha Stewart Weddings.  A popular trend is to use the lace from your wedding gown as inspiration for your cake design.

Embroidered Lace                       Ikat and French Silk Ribbon

Delicate French Silk               Midcentury Silk Scarf with a Abstract
                                                                                                  Petal Design

                                   Venetian Fabric - Granada                          Lace

Vintage Graphic Floral Cotton                     Calico Print

                                                Eyelet                                          Crewelwork

Hmmm, after talking about and looking at all these pictures of cakes, I think I might have to go bake one myself!  :)
